Keepers of Music exhibition book project
A collection of photographic images of traditional musicians, story tellers and healers mostly from the Eastern Cape, performing traditional songs and playing traditional instruments.
Photographs were taken over a number of trips to South Africa often out to remote villages in the Eastern Cape. Other images were taken in Cape town and Johannesburg during recording sessions.
The performing musicians are: AmaMampondo, Madosini, Madala, Ngqoko Women’s Ensemble and Mabi Thobejane. Many of these images have been used for album covers and booklets for the label Melt 2000.
Photographs were taken mainly using a Hasselblad 6×6 format camera and many of the prints are in traditional black and white that have been toned.
These images will be used in a music exhibition book project (TBA).
